Community Vote Results & The Path Forward

An update to the ZiTenga community | May 2026

To our ZiTenga community,

We promised to return to you with the final outcome of the community vote and our strategic direction moving forward. For those who are hearing about the vote for the first time, you can read about it in the email we sent out here: https://pay.zitenga.com/2026/04/22/now-zitenga-community-vote-and-the-future-of-zitenga/

In short: the vote was overwhelmingly positive, but turnout was too low for us to proceed. We cannot implement fundamental changes on feedback from less than 4% of our users. Instead, we are entering an orderly wind-down and will enable all users to withdraw their ZASH balances in full.

The Vote Results

The vote was to decide if we proceed with substantial user restrictions on user balances? If not, we would enable people to withdraw their ZASH and shut down the wallet.

The Participation Gap

While voters said yes, only 473 voters out of an estimated 11,000+ balance holders represents roughly a 4% turned out for the vote.

We unfortunately cannot implement changes affecting 100% of our users based on feedback from 4%.

It puts us in a practical paradox. If the new approach achieves viral adoption, the 96% who did not vote would find themselves subject to restrictions they never agreed to – naturally leading to discontent. A non-vote has the same effect in this instance as a no vote.

Financial Position and Scaling Risks

This is compounded by another issue: we don’t have the finances needed to execute this. We’ve been unable to raise capital and had been working multiple jobs to fund operations. But we just don’t have enough for the costs of viral scale, ongoing development costs and regulatory licensing costs.

Launching a money system that breaks under its own growth would be the worst outcome for the community. For both reasons, we cannot proceed with the proposed changes.

It is further compounded by the fact that some of our team members have decided to stop contributing based on the poor vote attendance. In short, we don’t have any more money to keep sustaining operations and will need to close the wallet within three months. It does not, however, affect your ZASH.

What Happens Next

We are going to enable all users to withdraw their ZASH in full, after which the wallet platform will be permanently closed. We will be proceeding with the following:

1. Full Balance Unlocking
All existing restrictions to balances will be removed. Every user will have full access to withdraw 100% of their ZASH.

2. Three-Month Withdrawal Window
At the end of May 2026 you will be able to withdraw your ZASH for a period of three months ending August 2026. Full details on how this works will be included in the ZiTenga wallet when you log in.

3. Wallet Closure
After the three-month window, access to the ZiTenga wallet platform will be permanently closed. Any ZASH not withdrawn by the closing date will no longer be accessible.

4. Code Open-Sourcing
We are exploring making the code open to all with an open-source licence so that the learnings of the past eight years will be available to others to try with the latest approach. While we won’t be implementing a new solution ourselves, it will be available for anyone else who would like to try. No user data, account information, or transaction logs will ever be included.

Frequently Asked Questions

When exactly does the three-month withdrawal window start?

You will be able to withdraw from the end of May 2026. When you log in, you will be guided through the steps automatically. It ends at the end of August.

What happens to my ZASH if I miss the three-month deadline?

Once the window closes, the ZiTenga wallet goes offline permanently and unwithdrawn ZASH from your ZiTenga wallet will become inaccessible. You will have full access to the ZASH that you have withdrawn to your self-custody wallet and will be able to make payments to others directly via the blockchain.

How do I withdraw my ZASH?

We will give instructions inside your ZiTenga wallet at the time for withdrawals. However, you will need to get your own self-custody wallet. Note that you will be responsible for the security of your ZASH once you withdraw.

Because ZASH now operates on an EVM-compatible chain, you will need a compatible external Web3 wallet (such as MetaMask) to receive your ZASH during withdrawal. We will give you instructions in your ZiTenga wallet at the time of withdrawals.

Why can’t you just proceed with the 90% approval rate of those who voted?

Because below a 4% turnout is not a sufficient mandate to alter an ecosystem belonging to 11,000+ people. Proceeding without the buy-in of the silent majority would be unfair. We committed to representative participation, and we are honouring that commitment.

Can I still use ZASH for local transactions during the withdrawal window?

Not on the ZiTenga Wallet. The transactional ecosystem and vendor incentive mechanisms are being turned off. The three-month window is strictly dedicated to ZASH withdrawals. However, once it is in your own self-custody wallet, you will be able to pay others directly via the blockchain.

Thank you for being part of ZiTenga. This is not the outcome any of us wanted, and we do not take lightly what closing this chapter means for you and for us. We remain committed to making this transition as smooth and transparent as possible.

Kind regards,

The ZiTenga Team
